Understanding Your CodeSignal Business Skills Assessment
We believe that skills—not just resumes—should define opportunities. Our skills platform helps hiring teams go beyond traditional resumes to objectively and fairly assess test-takers based on their actual abilities. And we work with hundreds of hiring companies that feel the exact same way.
By completing a CodeSignal business skills assessment, you’re demonstrating your communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills in a structured, unbiased environment. This assessment is designed to give you the opportunity to showcase your capabilities in a way that a resume simply can’t.
Why Take a Business Skills Assessment?
- Showcase Your Strengths: The assessment highlights your real-world skills, helping you stand out beyond your resume.
- Fair & Objective: It reduces hiring bias by evaluating test-takers on skills alone. Resume bias and interviewer bias are well documented phenomena that unfortunately happen. An AI-driven process creates a more consistent and logical evaluation experience, which reduces the bias that humans can sometimes bring into the screening process.
- Faster Hiring Decisions: A streamlined process ensures quicker feedback and hiring decisions.
- Better Job Fit: Confirms your readiness for the role, ensuring a strong match between your skills and the position.
What to Expect During the Assessment
1. Accessing the Assessment
Once invited, you’ll receive a link to begin your CodeSignal business skills assessment, usually delivered via email though you may receive a direct link from a recruiter. Click on the invitation link to proceed to the assessment portal.
2. Logging In or Creating an Account
If you already have a CodeSignal account, simply log in. If not, you’ll need to create one—it’s quick and easy! Once you login, you’ll see a short overview screen. You can click Next to continue.
3. Agree to the terms and pledges
Check the terms and pledges boxes and click Start.
4. Reviewing the Assessment Details
Before you begin, you’ll see key details about the assessment, including:
- Estimated total time required. There will be a timer for each question once you get started, as well to keep you on track.
- The types of questions included
- The total number of questions
Take a moment to review these details so you feel fully prepared.
5. Starting the Assessment
When you’re ready, click View next to the first question to begin. The timer has already started once you get to this page.
6. Granting Audio and Microphone Permissions
If your assessment includes conversational components, you’ll need to grant access to your microphone to complete these sections. You should have a pop-up on your screen requesting access. Confirm the access to continue.
7. Recording Your Responses
Instructions for your problem/scenario are given on the left hand side of the screen.
For written communications and spreadsheet based tasks, you can start working on the document immediately.
For AI-driven conversation prompts, you’ll be given a chance to respond verbally. Click Start Conversation to begin.
There is a timer below your AI partner’s picture with a max time you should allocate for each question. Feel free to end the conversation gracefully when you’re done— a simple “that’s all the time we have” (or something of the sort) will be sufficient if your AI agent is continuing to ask follow up questions and you’re ready to wrap up.
If needed, you can re-record your response to ensure clarity and confidence. Just click Try Again.
8. Submitting Your Responses
Once you complete each section, click Submit to move forward. You may have the option to skip, but know that you will not receive credit for that solution. When you finish your final question, your assessment will be submitted automatically.
9. What Happens Next?
After submitting your assessment, your responses will be sent to the hiring team for review. Your results will help determine the next steps in the hiring process based on your demonstrated skills.
The hiring organization can decide whether or not they want to report back your score to you. Reach out to the recruiting team if you have any questions.
