In this article, you will learn the structure, rules and scoring of Industry Coding Assessment (ICA) as well as which proctoring and assessment-specific rules are applied, and how to interpret your assessment score.
Structure
The ICA contains 1 domain-agnostic, project-based task with 4 progressive levels. The maximum allowed completion time for the assessment is 90 minutes; however, candidates are not necessarily expected to complete all tasks within this time limit. The requirements for each level build on the requirements from previous levels such that the overall task progressively increases in complexity.
- The first level requires basic implementation operations while accounting for corner cases.
- The second level introduces data processing functions, such as calculations or exports.
- The third level extends the previous functionality to support new advanced features.
- The fourth level culminates the project with a further extension of functionality. Given the progressive nature of the requirements, candidates must reuse, encapsulate, and refactor earlier code to maintain backward compatibility.
Proctoring & Assessment-Specific Rules
After you click the NEXT button on the assessment setup screen, you will see the rules for your assessment.

What is a "cooldown period" for ICA?
A cooldown period is the amount of time you have to wait after taking a CodeSignal certified assessment before you are eligible to retake the assessment.
The Industry Coding Assessment (ICA) can be retaken, however, like other standardized assessments, there is a limit to how many times one can retake the assessment within a given time period.
You are allowed two attempts within a 180-day rolling window, provided that you receive a new invitation from the company.
The Coding Score
After completing any CodeSignal Certified assessment, you are given a Coding Score that provides an objective measure of your skills. The Industry Coding Assessment (ICA) measures your skills in analytical thinking, manipulating data with purpose, and communicating business insights effectively.
- Coding Scores range from 200-600, with higher scores indicating that a candidate successfully completed more questions in their assessment.
- Only test-takers who do NOT submit any tasks receive a score of 200.
- If you took a proctored assessment, once you complete the test, your results will be in the “Pending” stage as our team reviews your session. We work to review results as soon as possible, typically within 1-3 business days.
- If we are able to verify that no unusual activity took place during your session, we will verify the results and automatically share them - along with the Coding Report - with the companies the you have authorized to view them. You can also manually share your Coding Report with additional companies.
